Question
Does pain arise from neural or vascular origin?
Doctors Response
Yes, pain can originate from either and from many other structures in the body including muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments and internal organs. Complete studies including, but not limited to, vascular studies, EMG, bone scans, x-rays and MRIs or CT scans may help differentiate among the possibilities. The important thing is for your physician to listen carefully to your complaints, perform a thorough physical examination and come up with a “differential diagnosis”-a list of conditions which might cause your pain in descending order of probability. This may save you unnecessary tests and have a diagnosis and proper treatment earlier.
