Cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder. Currently, two types of procedures exist: a laparoscopic procedure, which uses trocars to access the gallbladder, through three puncture holes, and an “open” surgery procedure, which has a more extensive recuperation and recovery period.
