From the Course Director
The Intensive Review of the Specialty of Pain Medicine Review Course on CD ROM is the most comprehensive program on pain and its management that the Dannemiller Foundation has ever developed. It has been designed to enhance your basic knowledge of pain management and to assist you for the certifying or re-certifying examinations of the American Board of Anesthesiology subspecialty in Pain Management and the American Board of Pain Medicine. Whether you are preparing for your boards or just want a comprehensive review of the specialty of pain, this CD ROM program is perfect for you.

Statement of Need
Over 50 million Americans suffer from chronic pain and nearly 25 million Americans experience acute pain each year due to injuries or surgery. A 2000 survey of 1000 chronic pain patients indicated that 80% of respondents accepted pain as a normal part of their specific illness or medical condition and 62% were not completely happy with their doctors, citing unsuccessful pain treatment as the main reason. The American Medical Association acknowledges that pain of all types is undertreated in our society and the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations instituted pain management standards in 2001. Physicians of all specialties need information and education in the care and treatment of pain and pain management professionals require frequent updates on pain management practice to keep current. The Dannemiller Foundation has been planning and developing certified educational programs in pain management for over 10 years and through years of evaluation, research and outcomes studies, understands the educational needs of physicians who treat pain patients to improve their patients’ outcomes. This program was specifically designed for this purpose.
